Hong Kong, the bustling metropolis that never sleeps, is a city packed with vibrant energy, stunning architecture, and a rich cultural heritage. Emi, an avid traveler, recently embarked on an adventure to this fascinating destination. Join Emi as she explores the hidden gems and iconic landmarks of Hong Kong, capturing the essence of this captivating city.

Discovering the City's Vibrant Districts

Emi's first stop was Central, the heart of Hong Kong's financial district. Towering skyscrapers painted the skyline, showcasing the city's remarkable blend of modern architecture and traditional Chinese elements. Emi wandered through the bustling streets, surrounded by a sea of people rushing to their next meeting or indulging in traditional street food from local vendors.

From there, Emi made her way to Wan Chai, a district known for its vibrant nightlife and bustling markets. The streets came alive with the sound of music, laughter, and the aromatic flavors of local cuisine. Emi immersed herself in the lively atmosphere and tasted traditional dishes like dim sum and roasted duck, leaving her taste buds in awe.

Exploring Iconic Landmarks

No trip to Hong Kong is complete without a visit to Victoria Peak, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of the cityscape. Emi took the iconic Peak Tram to the top, marveled at the dazzling city lights, and watched as the lights of Hong Kong's skyline danced across the horizon. It was a sight that left her in awe of the city's beauty.

Emi also explored the vibrant streets of Mong Kok, famous for its lively markets and bustling shopping districts. The Ladies Market, in particular, caught her attention with its endless stalls selling everything from clothes and accessories to unique souvenirs. Emi couldn't resist the temptation and ended up with a bag full of treasures to bring back home.

Immersing in Local Culture

Emi continued her adventure by immersing herself in the local culture of Hong Kong. She wandered through the historic streets of Sheung Wan, where traditional Chinese medicine shops, temples, and antique stores painted a picture of Hong Kong's cultural heritage. Emi's curiosity led her to visit the Man Mo Temple, where the centuries-old incense filled the air, creating a serene and mystical atmosphere.

To truly experience the soul of Hong Kong, Emi decided to cruise along Victoria Harbour on a traditional junk boat. The cool sea breeze brushed her face as she admired the stunning views of the city's skyline, with skyscrapers standing tall against the backdrop of the mountains. It was a moment of tranquility and a chance to reflect on the beauty of this remarkable city.

The Gourmet Journey

No trip is complete without indulging in the local cuisine, and Emi's journey through Hong Kong was no exception. She savored mouthwatering delicacies at the renowned Din Tai Fung, known for its delectable dumplings. Emi also explored the vibrant street food scene of Temple Street Night Market, where the aroma of sizzling stir-fried noodles and steamed buns filled the evening air.

For a taste of luxury, Emi dined at the exquisite Lung King Heen, the first Chinese restaurant to be awarded three Michelin stars. Every dish was a work of art, beautifully presented and bursting with flavors that delighted her taste buds. Emi's culinary adventure in Hong Kong was an extraordinary experience that left a lasting impression on her.

Emi's journey through the vibrant streets of Hong Kong was a memorable experience filled with cultural discoveries, mesmerizing views, and delightful culinary experiences. It showcased the unique fusion of tradition and modernity that defines this remarkable city. As she bid farewell to Hong Kong, Emi knew that she had left a piece of her heart behind, vowing to return one day and continue exploring the endless wonders of this captivating destination.

There are many beautiful things Emi can buy. Or is there a better answer?

Emi Takes Hong Kong is a celebration of one of the most vivid cities in the world, as well as the creativity that we all have within us. It is an exciting adventure story that can also be used as a travel guide.

Interview with the Author

So, what makes Emi Takes Hong Kong special?

Emi Takes Hong Kong is a picture book that doubles up as a kids’ travel guide since Emi visits all the top sights in Hong Kong on his quest! I had the idea to write a series of adventure stories based in different cities when I struggled to find any Asian children’s books or travel guides catering to young children. I’ve always found that stories are the best way to introduce new things (or cities) to kids!

Why should readers give this new book a try?

Emi’s story on creativity appeals to any reader as a satisfying one, whether it is their home town or not. As well as major sights of Hong Kong, the travel story book also introduces elements of local culture, such as dim sum and making a wish at Wong Tai Sin temple.

The kids’ story travel guide is designed to fit easily into those backpacks and little hands. I’ve also included maps and picture glossaries, as well as a quiz, to keep the little ones busy on the road. With a fun search-and-find element on each spread, this is a book your child will come back to again and again.

“With lyrical storytelling and lovely illustrations, this is a wonderful armchair journey around some of the most magical sights of Hong Kong- and should inspire children of all ages to get out in the fresh air!”— Nury Vittachi, Renowned Journalist And Author Of More Than 20 Children's Books

“A colourful and dynamic journey around some of the 852’s most iconic locations, Emi Takes Hong Kong is a delightful story with an educational twist that kids and parents alike will love. It’s the perfect gift for mini adventurers, and for inspiring little HongKongers to experience more of what this incredible place has to offer.”— Claire Yates, Founder Of The Lion Rock Press
