Day 1: Battling the Elements
The initial impact of Hurricane Maria was overwhelming. The powerful winds lashed against our homes, threatening to tear them apart. Roofs were ripped off, trees uprooted, and vehicles tossed around like children's toys.
But amid the chaos, we banded together. Neighbors helped each other secure their homes, reinforcing doors and windows, doing everything in our power to minimize the damage. We knew that unity was our greatest strength.
As night fell and darkness enveloped us, candles and flashlights became our only sources of light. We huddled together, fearful yet determined to face whatever challenges lay ahead. Sleep was nearly impossible, as the sound of the storm echoed through the night.
Day 2: The Struggle for Basic Necessities
Waking up to torrential rain and a landscape of debris, we realized that the aftermath of Hurricane Maria was going to test our resilience in ways we had never imagined. With no power and limited access to clean water, the struggle for basic necessities became our top priority.
Lines formed outside supermarkets and gas stations, where supplies dwindled rapidly. People patiently waited for hours with the hope of getting their hands on bottles of water, canned food, and fuel. It was a daily battle for survival, where resilience and patience were crucial.
Day 5: The Power of Community
As the days passed, the power outage became our new normal. We adapted to a life without electricity, finding creative solutions to keep our families safe and comfortable. With no air conditioning, fans, or refrigeration, we relied on old-fashioned methods to keep cool and preserve food.
But it was within our communities that the true power of unity became evident. We pooled our resources, sharing the little we had with those who were less fortunate. In makeshift community kitchens, we cooked meals to feed our neighbors, coming together in solidarity and compassion.
Day 10: Rebuilding with Resilience
As the storm subsided, the daunting task of rebuilding began. The road to recovery was long and arduous, but we tackled it with unwavering determination. Communities joined forces, clearing debris, repairing homes, and rebuilding schools and hospitals.
Every day brought a glimmer of hope as we witnessed the resilience of our people. While the scars of Hurricane Maria will always remain, they serve as a reminder of our strength and our ability to overcome even the toughest challenges.
Day 30: A New Beginning
One month after Hurricane Maria, signs of progress and healing started to emerge. Power was gradually being restored, and schools and businesses were reopening. Although the journey to full recovery was far from over, we found solace in the small victories.
The daily memoirs of surviving Hurricane Maria will forever serve as a testament to the power of the human spirit. In the face of adversity, we stood united, displaying unwavering courage and resilience.
Surviving Hurricane Maria was not just about physical endurance; it was a test of the human spirit. The daily memoirs of those who experienced the wrath of the storm remind us of the power of unity, compassion, and resilience.
As we recount the stories of survival, let us celebrate the strength and determination that emerged from the darkest of times. Let us remember that even in the face of the most devastating natural disasters, hope can prevail, and the human spirit can rise above.

This is a non-fiction recollection of real time events that occurred during the category 5 Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico (US Territory). During which time I tried to record as much as possible in light of providing enough comprehensible information to assist others in understanding real time events before, during and after such a catastrophic event.
Red cross, FEMA, Macro fuel Emergency, US Army Corp of Engineers, US Army, US Air force, USN Comfort, US Marine Corps and many more contributed to the relief effort to the islands of Vieques, Culebra and the US Virgin Islands. Keep in mind Hurricane Irma had struck the state of Florida and parts of Puerto Rico. A week before Hurricane Harvey had done damage in Texas.
