The Xultun Tarot: An

The Xultun Tarot is a deck of 78 cards that draws inspiration from ancient Maya culture and symbolism. Created by renowned tarot expert Peter Balin, this deck attempts to bridge the gap between the ancient Maya worldview and modern divination practices.

Each card of the Xultun Tarot is intricately designed, incorporating elements of Maya art, architecture, and mythology. The imagery and symbolism incorporated in the deck provide a profound understanding of the diverse aspects of human life and the interconnectedness of all existence.

Decoding the Symbols

To truly appreciate the wisdom embedded in the Xultun Tarot, one must understand the significance of its symbols. Exploring these symbols will unlock deeper layers of interpretation and allow for a more profound understanding of the human experience.

One of the prominent symbols in the Xultun Tarot is the glyph of the Feathered Serpent, representing the god Quetzalcoatl. This profound deity is associated with knowledge, wisdom, and the cycles of life. The presence of this symbol in the deck signifies the importance of embracing knowledge and aligning oneself with the natural rhythms of existence.

Another significant symbol is that of the sacred jaguar, revered for its strength, agility, and connection to the spirit realm. The presence of the jaguar in a reading suggests the need for courage, adaptability, and a deeper exploration of one's subconscious.

Each card in the Xultun Tarot holds a universe of meaning within its unique symbols and artwork. By studying these symbols and their connections, one can unravel profound insights into various aspects of life, including love, career, spirituality, and personal growth.

Using the Xultun Tarot for Divination

Like traditional tarot decks, the Xultun Tarot can be used as a tool for divination and self-reflection. Whether you are a seasoned tarot reader or new to the practice, exploring the Xultun Tarot will provide a fresh perspective and a deeper connection to the wisdom of a bygone era.

When using the Xultun Tarot for divination, it is crucial to approach the reading with an open mind and a reverence for the ancient Maya wisdom. Take the time to familiarize yourself with the unique symbolism of the deck, as it may differ from the traditional Rider-Waite tarot deck.

While the Xultun Tarot honors the ancient Maya culture, it also has the flexibility to adapt to our modern lives and concerns. The wisdom contained within its cards can guide us in navigating the complexities of relationships, career choices, and personal growth.

The Gateway to Maya Wisdom

Unlocking the secrets of the Xultun Tarot is akin to opening a portal into the ancient Maya world. With each card you lay, the mysteries of this remarkable civilization unfold before your eyes.

Through the Xultun Tarot, we can gain insight into the cyclical nature of existence, the importance of embracing knowledge, and the interconnectedness of all things. This deck transcends time, offering a bridge between ancient wisdom and our contemporary lives.

The Maya civilization, with its intricate calendar systems and profound spiritual beliefs, continues to captivate our imagination. By exploring the Xultun Tarot, we can tap into the essence of Maya wisdom and gain a deeper understanding of our own lives.

So, if you seek to connect with the divine, embark on a journey into the mystical world of the Xultun Tarot. Unleash your curiosity, honor the ancient Maya civilization, and let the timeless wisdom of the Xultun Tarot guide you on the path of self-discovery and enlightenment.

THE MAYA BOOK OF LIFE: UNDERSTANDING THE XULTUN TAROT is the companion book to the Xultun Tarot Classic Edition by Kahurangi Press. It explores the archetypes and alchemy of the major arcana of the Xultun Tarot through indigenous teachings and the analytical psychology of C G Jung. Please note: MAJOR ARCANA ONLY. (Why? See xultun.com/order-book)

The Xultun Tarot was created by Peter Balin in 1976 based on images from Maya history and culture. Taken from a single painting, it is the only tarot deck where the major arcana form a complete picture. This picture is a symbolic image of the alchemical marriage of spirit and matter and a map of what Jung called the individuation process. Only 500 copies of the original Xultun Tarot were ever printed. Now Kahurangi Press has recreated this classic, long out-of-print deck true to its original large size and vibrant colours.

The book:
>describes the story of the marriage of spirit and matter as told by the tarot
>explains how the tarot is both the story of the union of opposites and also the separation of sames
>explains the archetypal meaning of each of the major arcana
>describes the Twenty Count, the Shields, the Moods of Stalking and the Movements of the Book of Life and how they apply to each card
>explains the Cracking of the Mirror of Self-reflection
>clarifies the importance of the 9 (Sage) and 14 (Temperate Man) cards
>explains the links between indigenous teachings, the tarot and medieval alchemy
>details the unfolding of the individuation process card-by-card
